Learn how carbon credits are audited and offset at Moss
Find out how curation is done and learn about the certifications and technology behind our carbon credits
Moss was created at the beginning of 2020 with the mission to revolutionize the voluntary carbon market, in favor of the health of our planet.
Through technological tools, Moss works to democratize access to the carbon market, previously restricted to large companies.
Through blockchain technology, access to security and transparency in transaction processes made by Moss customers has become even easier. Moss is careful with its users and this care ranges from acquiring the carbon assets it gains to creating and marketing its MCO2-consistent blockchain tokens.
What is blockchain technology?
Blockchain is a system, formatted as a chain of blocks, that allows the validation and verification of information. Compared to the physical world, it would be like an accounting book, only more secure, digital, transparent and decentralized.
What initiatives are benefited by the purchase of carbon credits?
An important point to be addressed about Moss is that we only acquire forest carbon credits that are already certified, that is, that have already gone through the entire monitoring, verification and issuance process.
You can access the report with all project information here.
Through processes that involve visiting sites, interviewing, examining documentation, and performing research and technical risk assessment, Moss chose 20 of the top 200 projects in Brazil, whose objective is to capture excess greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
These are the initiatives that are fostered through the carbon credits you purchase at our platform.

The MCO2 Token
Moss is helping to save the planet. In just over a year, around US $13 million in carbon credits have been transacted. Credits from projects aiming to preserve the environment.
Some of these projects have already been detailed here on the blog, such as: the Agrocortex Project, one of the largest sustainable forestry initiatives in the country, focused on long-term timber production; Fazenda Fortaleza Ituxi, focused on sustainable management to reduce carbon dioxide emissions; and Amazon REED+IFM, which aims to conserve more than 20,000 hectares of forest in Amazonas.
The concern with the quality of the carbon credits that back the MCO2 is a fundamental point for Moss, which is why we carry out frequent audits in order to validate that each MCO2 means a certified carbon credit in the portfolio, in order to ensure legal and transactional certainty for its users.
Moss works to guarantee transparency and safety
All our certification and auditing processes are published on our website and we value the transparency of our performance in a market so important and significant for our planet.
Safety and reliability are also fundamental to our business, which is why Moss was certified by the best audits in the world, such as:
Our digital wallets are in blockchain technology, providing more security to your credits. The blockchain is, today, one of the most reliable forms of data security existing, being the pioneer and fundamental technology for the cryptoactive market.
The security of our MCO2 Token, the carbon credit of Moss, was recently audited by Certik, a company specialized in blockchain security. Certik pioneered the use of the formal verification process in smart contracts and blockchains. This entails that our token is now proven to be secure and vulnerability free.
EY – ERNST & YOUNG
As previously mentioned, Ernst & Young is one of the largest auditing companies in the world, composing with Delloite, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and KPMG the group known as the “Big Four Accounting Firms”.
For this reason, the generation of our carbon credits is audited by EY, certifying to our customers and partners the integrity and transparency of our MCO2 Token.
Through EY, we obtained the ISAE 3000 seal, which is issued by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). The ISAE 3000 standard consists of guidelines for ethical behavior, quality management and work performance, serving as an international guideline for audits.
Created in 2006, in the United States, System B is a global movement that certifies companies that create products and services aimed at solving social and environmental problems.
We recently received a B Corp pending status, a special status for new business. This puts us on the path to B Corp certification, which is “the highest standard for socially responsible companies”.
Important international consulting firms such as Deloitte have assessed our structure. The MCO2 has also been incorporated into the crypto reserve of one of the most important stakeholders in the market, Celo, thus validating the token.
CELO ALLIANCE FOR PROSPERITY
With the slogan “Money can be beautiful”, the Celo Alliance for Prosperity is an ecosystem of organizations that aim to promote social impact and financial inclusion through the use of blockchain technology, and , since January, Moss has been part of this group.
Founded in 1845, in London, Delloite is today one of the largest and most traditional business audits and consultancies in the world. With more than 700 offices spread across the planet, Delloite, together with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), KPMG and Ernst & Young (EY), compose the so-called “Big Four Accounting Firms”, which are the four leading companies in global auditing services.
Always aiming to provide accountability to our customers, Moss counted on Delloite’s consulting, which makes our accounts even more secure and reliable for our customers.
