The fight for the environment is urgent and human survival depends on it. Today, we are going to meet five public figures who fight for the planet.

Leonardo DiCaprio

A world-renowned actor, Leonardo DiCaprio also stands out for his environmental activism. In addition to being appointed in 2014 as a UN Messenger of Peace for climate change, the actor has spearheaded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation since 1998.

The foundation is dedicated to preserving the planet’s endangered locations by implementing solutions that restore balance to threatened ecosystems and seeking long-term solutions for the health and well-being of planet Earth.

Furthermore, the actor is part of other environmental groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Global Green USA e International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).


One of the main projects of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation is Rewild, which aims to protect and restore irreplaceable places on our planet (such as the Galapagos Islands), reverse extinction, and restore the world’s rarest and most endangered species by partnering with Earth defenders around the world.

Lauren Singer

Lauren Singer is an American environmental activist who gained notoriety for popularizing the zero waste lifestyle. In 2012, when she was 21 years old, the activist went viral after putting all the garbage she had accumulated in a year in a small glass jar.


In 2014, she founded the blog “Trash is for Tossers”, which documents her daily life and gives tips on everyday actions we can take to have a zero waste life.

Greta Thunberg

Born in Stockholm, Greta Thunberg became internationally known after speaking at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in September 2019.

Outraged by the inertia of world leaders in the face of the climate crisis, she famously accused them of betraying the future of young people.

Her first foray into activism was in August 2018. Greta, then 15, started missing school to protest in front of the Swedish Parliament. She soon gained company even under criticism that she should not skip class to defend her cause.

In an interview for The Guardian, Greta clarified that she did not stop reading about the environment and other relevant topics while protesting, taking the opportunity to answer her critics: “What am I going to learn at school? Facts no longer matter. If politicians aren’t listening to scientists, then why should I learn?”


Today Greta is one of the world’s most recognizable spokesperson for the climate cause, with more than 13.7 million followers on Instagram.

Gisele Bundchen

Brazilian supermodel and businesswoman Gisele Bündchen has also paved the way as one of the most famous and engaged environmental activists.

Over the past few years, Gisele has supported various environmental causes such as Forests of the Future, aimed at reforesting the Atlantic Forest (along with the NGO SOS Mata Atlântica) and eBay Giving Works, an online auction with 100% of proceeds going to the World Wildlife Fund’s global conservation initiatives.

She has donated R$100,000 to the Alto Pantanal Brigade, a campaign launched in early September of last year that raised funds for the creation of two permanent firefighting and fire prevention brigades in the Alto Pantanal, a border region between Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.



Reflecting on her support of the Alto Pantanal Brigade, the model said: “In this world, we are all connected and what happens in one place has an impact on others. Therefore, we need to learn to live in balance with nature and honor all the gifts it provides us.”

Fabio Feldmann

Co-founder and first president of SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation, Fabio Feldmann has followed a career based on dedication to the environment.

In 2000, he was a special consultant on climate change at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and in the following year served as a consultant to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) for the World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa. He has additionally worked as a sustainable development consultant and former secretary of the environment for the State of São Paulo.

Fábio Feldmann

Today, Fabio continues his work on sustainable policies and actions while also serving on the board of Moss.
