Get to know the Fazenda Fortaleza Ituxi project

The Fazenda Fortaleza Ituxi project aims to protect the forest located in one of the regions with the highest deforestation rate in the Amazon Rainforest: the municipality of Lábrea.

Have you ever heard about the Fazenda Fortaleza Ituxi project? MOSS is an environmental online platform that offers an easy way of combating climate change, promoting the preservation of forests, and, consequently, preserving the planet.

Our mission is to offset the negative impact of greenhouse gas emissions on the planet, with the development of a new carbon credit market. In other words, credit projects are a solution to creating a sustainable and regenerative system, positively impacting the environment, society, and the economy.

With the purchasing of carbon credits, projects can be financed, enabling forest maintenance and helping the development of the communities around it. One of the financial projects for the sale of carbon credits is Fazenda Fortaleza Ituxi.

How does the carbon credit market work?

Carbon credits are digital certificates that represent how much carbon dioxide (CO2) a company has refrained from releasing into the atmosphere or how much of its emission has been avoided through environmental projects.

MOSS stands out as the largest environmental platform in the world that offers this service. On our digital platform, credits can be bought and sold in a secure and transparent market. After all, they are audited by international institutions that regulate the registration of credits in accordance with global protocols.

With the discussion on the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), it is possible to bring global warming to everyone’s awareness and stimulate societal debate on the subject, exposing the biggest polluters. From this awareness, interesting ideas and solutions emerge, such as the purchase of carbon credits that benefit important projects, such as Fazenda Fortaleza Ituxi.

The funds from the purchase of carbon credits goes directly into certified projects for the preservation of the Amazon Rainforest, which includes combating deforestation, acting against global warming, and protecting the region’s fauna, flora, and water resources.

What is the Fortaleza Ituxi REDD Farm Project?

The REDD Fortaleza Ituxi project aims to protect forests located in one of the regions with the highest deforestation rate in the Amazon Rainforest: the municipality of Lábrea. The project also includes the implementation of activities that support and ensure sustainable forest management, benefiting the local community.

The acronym REDD stands for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, which is an incentive to financially reward projects that are reducing deforestation. With sustainable activities, it is possible to avoid greenhouse gas emissions associated with deforestation and forest degradation.

The REDD Fortaleza Ituxi project

The Fazenda Ituxi is located in the south of the Amazon Rainforest and has 150 thousand hectares of environmental preservation. Its objective is to maintain sustainable management and avoid deforestation, boost training of the local community, which depends on the forest, with the cultivation of açaí and chestnuts, for example. Therefore, by stimulating this project, it enables keeping the forest and families safe.

The forest management plan started implementation in 2013 and has a proposed duration of 30 years. By 2015, a reduction of 1,181,732 tCO2 of greenhouse gas emissions was estimated. However, the starting of this implementation was very challenging, due to squatters, invaders, and the awareness of local residents.

Ricardo Stoppe Jr. is the owner of Fazenda Ituxi. And he recalls how in the beginning they called him crazy. “When we started, the locals disdained the project and told me to deforest everything and raise cattle. Today, a few years later, recurrently, they come to me asking about the project and how they can invest too ”.

Currently, Ricardo is very confident and happy with the results of the project. “If the financial viability continues with the sale of carbon credits, I really believe that the Amazon Rainforest can be saved.” The owner of the farm points out that the most difficult part was getting people to understand the project and its benefits beyond the financial aspect. Today, Ricardo points out that there is already a demand for other people to invest in new areas, which are also very deforested.

Sustainable forest management is the main objective of the project. The success of Fazenda Ituxi can be explained by the seriousness and supervision with which everything is carried out. Therefore, with the presence of workers in management activities, investments in security and training, invasion pressures within the project area are inhibited. There are also other benefits, such as the preservation of local biodiversity, fauna, and water resources.

How can you help?

Have you ever heard that, on average, a person generates more than 1.6 tons of carbon dioxide a year? Imagine that value when multiplying by all the inhabitants of the planet? Therefore, not only companies, but citizens are also to be held responsible for pollution.

When buying a carbon credit, it is possible to contribute to the environment, preventing 1 ton of carbon dioxide from being generated, collaborating positively with the change in the current reality.

Even though the funds of the commercialization of these credits are intended for social and environmental projects, such as the Fortaleza Ituxi project. Therefore, the more credits are traded, the greater the perception of the forest’s value, reducing deforestation and making it more profitable to keep it standing than to cut it down.

So, you can and should also help the Amazon Rainforest by promoting projects such as Fazenda Ituxi. When you buy carbon credits, you will positively impact society, being just the beginning of all the good that this market can bring to the forests.
